Product Features

Many of AOL's products and services make using the Internet easier for people with disabilities. For instance:

  • The AOLbyPhone product is a service for AOL members which makes information particularly easy to access for people who are blind or who have difficulty reading. AOLbyPhone allows you to access your favorite AOL features like reading and replying to e-mail, and checking news, sports scores and stock quotes right OVER THE PHONE. The service is powered by the latest voice recognition technology. For more information, visit AOL Keyword: AOLbyPhone or call 1-800-265-1234.
  • The Instant Message feature allows you to have immediate, one-on-one, private chats in real time with other AOL members who are online at the same time as you (or with non-AOL members using the AOL Instant Messenger(SM) service).  It is a valuable communication tool for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.  AOL 8.0 features sounds that you can attach to your screenname which help blind users recognize their IM buddies immediately.
  • To speed navigation, AOL offers keyboard shortcuts.  For a list of keyboard shortcuts, visit AOL Keyword: Shortcuts.
  • AOL continues to strive to improve the performance of the AOL service with screen readers.  For the best AOL experience using the current release, version 8.0, we recommend Jaws screen reader 4.02 and higher.  For more information, read the Vision Section under Accessibility Help.
