Instant Messenger & AOL Users

Q: Why can't I send an instant message to an AOL user who is displayed in my Buddy List? When I try to do this, I receive a message that the person is not online.
A: AOL users have a feature that let them block all incoming instant messages but still be seen in Buddy Lists. It is possible that the AOL user has blocked all instant messages or blocked all instant messages from you.

Q: Why do I get my instant messages in AOL instead of Instant Messenger when I'm online with both AOL and Instant Messenger?
A: This feature is intentional. If you want to receive your instant messages only in Instant Messenger, you can use a different screen name for Instant Messenger from the one you are using with AOL.

Q: What features of Instant Messenger can I use with my AOL buddies?
A: Instant Messenger users can see AOL users in their Buddy List windows and can send instant messages to them. However, Instant Messenger users cannot chat with their AOL buddies, view AOL users' profiles, or transfer files at this time.

Q: How do I use my current AOL screen name with Instant Messenger?
A: As an AOL member, your screen name is reserved for you if you want to use it with Instant Messenger. Simply download & install IM and sign on with your AOL screen name and password. Note: if you change either your AOL or IM password it will not affect the other one.

Once you receive registration confirmation for your Instant Messenger account, you can create and register additional Instant Messenger screen names.
