    Using the Buddy List

The Buddy List displays the name and status for all online and offline buddies. The first time you sign on to AIM Mobile, there are no buddies in your Buddy List unless you have created a "Mobile Device" group using AOL 4.0 or greater, AIM 4.2 or greater, or Aim Express.

If you have not already created one before you sign on to AIM Mobile for the first time, a "Mobile Device" group is created when you sign on. This list is limited to 30 buddies.  If you have 30 existing buddies or less, they are all added to this new group. If you have more than 30 existing buddies, the 30 buddies most recently added to your Buddy List are added to the Mobile Device group.

The Buddy List is updated every time you sign on, update the list, or refresh the browser. The symbols preceding a buddy name indicate the buddy's status. Click here for a list of symbols.

Adding Buddies
To add a screen name to the Buddy List, first select MENU to display the List Menu.

Select Add Name to Buddy List.

Type the screen name of your buddy and select OK.

TIP  AIM ignores spaces in screen names. Therefore, when you are typing a screen name that is a compound word such as "SpaceCadet" or "iscreamdog" using T9 Text Input, just press the RIGHT ARROW to insert a space between the words instead of compounding the word. The screen name will display as "Space Cadet" or "i scream dog." AIM will ignore the spaces and interpret the screen name correctly.

Updating the Buddy List
After you add a name to your Buddy List, the list is redisplayed with the new name always at the end of the Offline Buddies list.

Select MENU and then select Get New/Update List to display your buddy's current status.

Online Buddies
A "." period precedes screen names to improve the readability of the list. Other symbols next to a buddy name indicate your buddy's status:

New Message. A new message has been received from this buddy.

Alert. You will be alerted when this buddy signs on.

Away. This buddy is Away.

Uncertain. This buddy may be offline.

Rejected. You have Rejected messages from this buddy.

Offline Buddies
When a buddy goes offline, the screen name moves to Offline Buddies the next time you get new messages or update the list.

When you add a name to your Buddy List, it is displayed at the end of the Offline Buddies list. To update the buddy's status, select MENU and then select Get New/Update List.

Deleting Buddies
To delete a buddy from the Buddy List, use the navigation keys to scroll the pointer to the buddy name, and then select MENU.

Scroll to Delete buddyname and select OK.

Select ERASE to delete the buddy. Select CANCL to abort the process and return to the menu.

TIP  If there is an open conversation with the buddy you selected to delete, you may have to end the conversation with the buddy before the screen name will appear in Delete buddyname. To end the conversation from the Conversations List, highlight the conversation, select MENU, and then select End Conversation.
