You manage
the AIM service and your Buddy List
feature with AIM commands. To use a command, send a text message
to the Instant Message (IM) number assigned to that command.
IM numbers are like phone numbers and are assigned by your
wireless carrier. For example, to sign on to the AIM service,
send a text message to the IM number for the AIM-SignOn
command.
You also
use IM numbers to send messages to your friends, family members,
and co-workers. When you sign on to the AIM service for the
first time, up to 30 screen names in your Buddy List feature
are automatically assigned IM numbers.
Because
you'll need to keep track of the IM numbers for both the screen
names in your Buddy List feature and for the AIM commands,
create entries for them in your phone book. This way, you
won't have to remember this information and it's ready for
you every time you want to send a message. To send a message
or to use a command, you just send a text message to the phone
book entry.
