Find out who from your Buddy List feature is online

Before you send a message, make sure that the recipient is online. Follow these steps to find out which screen names in your Mobile Device group (in your Buddy List feature) are available for instant messaging.

1. Open a new text message. Leave the message blank, or type a space if your phone requires a message.  
       
2.

Send the message to the AIM-Buddies phone book entry.

       
3.

Check the text messaging Inbox on your phone.

You'll receive a text message back listing the screen names from your Mobile Device group that are online.

Send an instant message to a screen name in your Buddy List feature

1. Open a new text message and type your message using your phone's keypad.  
       
2.

Send the message to the phone book entry for your friend.

If the screen name is saved in your Buddy List feature, but not as an entry in your phone book, then send the message to the IM number for the screen name.

If you don't know the IM number for the screen name, send a message to the AIM-Settings phone book entry to get it.

 
       
3.

Check for new messages in the text messaging Inbox on your phone.

When your friend responds, their message will arrive in the text messaging Inbox on your phone and your phone may alert you with a sound or vibration.

Send an instant message to an unlisted screen name

Follow these steps to send an instant message to someone who is not listed in your Buddy List feature.

TIP: If you converse frequently with someone who is not saved in your Buddy List feature, add them to your Buddy List feature.

1. Open a new text message. Type the screen name and the message using the format
screenname (colon) (space) message

2. Send the message to the AIM-Unlisted phone book entry.  
       
3.

Check for new messages in the text messaging Inbox on your phone.

When your friend responds, their message will arrive in the text messaging Inbox on your phone and your phone may alert you with a sound or vibration.
