Disable Alerts by Changing Your Status to "Away"

The AIM service using the AT&T Wireless mMode Network takes advantage of the alerts built into your phone to let you know when other AIM users sign on or when you receive new messages. The type of alert you receive depends on your phone and its alert settings. Depending on what phone you have and its browser version, the alert could be an audio tone, vibration, icon, and/or flashing LED.

These alerts must be enabled using the setup options for the phone. They cannot be changed using the AIM service. The AIM service only takes advantage of their availability on the phone.

Buddy Alerts

Get notified when a friend, family member, or co-worker signs on. On the main AIM page, select an Offline Buddy screen name, and then select Set Alert from the AIM menu. When that screen name signs on, the AIM service generates an alert and lists a new message in the Conversations list. The screen name will then have the ! symbol next to it in the main AIM page.

Alerts are set separately for each screen name in your Buddy List® feature. You can temporarily disable all alerts by changing your status to "Away."

Message Alerts

When you receive a new instant message, you are always alerted at the highest possible level with a text message, audio tone, vibration, or some combination.

To read the new message, select the screen name in the Conversations list. If you are writing a message when this alert arrives, skip or cancel the alert message to prevent losing what you've typed. If you are redisplaying the conversation when this alert arrives, the new message may appear under [previous msgs].

Disable Alerts by Changing Your Status to "Away"

When you set "My Status" to "Away (Do Not Disturb)," the Buddy and Message alerts are temporarily disabled, and other AIM users will see an "Away" icon next to your name in their Buddy List® feature . If someone sends you a message, the AIM user will receive a message that you are currently unavailable. When your status is "Away," you still receive all messages that are sent to you, and when you change your status to "Available" you can view your new messages. Learn more about changing your status.
