

While signed
on to the AIM® service you can easily switch between messaging,
talking, and performing other activities with your phone. To make
a phone call or use other functions of the phone, exit the Web browser
as documented for your phoneyou'll stay signed on to the AIM
service. To return to the AIM session, just navigate to the AIM
option under Message Center.
Typing on your
phone can sometimes be difficult and time-consuming. Learn
how to use T9® Text Input to make typing on your phone easier.
About
the Conversations List
| On
the main AIM page, the Conversations list displays the screen
names with whom you have an active conversation. Screen names
marked by an asterisk (*) indicate that you have received a
new message from that buddy. Select a screen name to view the
new message and the conversation. |

Send
a New Message
To send a new
message to an online buddy, select their screen name in the Online
Buddies list and write your message.
To send a new
message to a screen name that is not in your Buddy List® feature,
select Send Msg to . . . from the AIM menu, and enter the
screen name of the person who you want to send a message. Then,
type your message.

Your message
is saved under the screen name and indicated by the "<"
character.
You
can continue to write messages to this screen name, or you
can find other message options on
the instant message page.

Manage Conversations
From the instant
message page, you can perform these tasks:

Receive
a New Message
Depending
on your phone, how you are notified of new instant messages may
be different. Typically, a message appears on your phone display
alerting you that you have a new message. This notification message
will provide instructions for how you can view your new instant
message. See phone-specific information.
If you receive
a message from someone who is not saved in your Buddy List feature,
you are first asked to Accept or Reject this message.
If you reject the message, all further messages from this user
will be declined until you send them a message or re-accept them.

If you receive
a message alert while typing another message, for some phones
you can "skip" or close the alert message so that you
don't lose the message you are currently composing. Then, when
you are ready to view new messages, go to the main AIM page and
update the Conversation list.
Reply
to a Message
To reply to
a message, select the screen name in the Conversations list to view
the conversation. You can either type your message or select Quick
Reply to use smileys, simple greetings, and common phrases.

Conduct
a Conversation
Each time you
send a message or update a conversation, the AIM service displays
any new messages that you have received.
- If there
are no new messages since the last time you updated the conversation,
"No new messages in this conv." displays.
- If there
are previous messages in the conversation, select previous
msgs to display them.
- If there
are new messages from other screen names, select other new
messages to display the Conversations list.
You can type
a response or select Quick Reply to use smileys, simple greetings,
and common phrases.
If you receive
a message alert while typing a message, "skip" or close
the alert message to return to the message you are currently composing.
Then, when you are ready to view new messages, go to the main AIM
page and update the Conversation
list.

View
Previous Messages
The Message page includes a link to any previous messages. Select
Previous msgs to display the Previous Messages page.
This page displays
as much of the preceding conversation as possible in the available
page memory. Use the navigation keys to scroll through the page.

Other New Messages
When
you have several conversations going at once, select Other new
msgs to update and display the main AIM page. The
asterisk (*) next to a screen name indicates new messages have arrived
from this person.

End
the Conversation
To end
a conversation, select End Conversation. This clears all
previous messages in the conversation and updates the screen name's
status.

Reject
Messages
To reject messages from an AIM user, navigate to the screen name
in either the Conversations List or the Buddy List, and
select the Reject Messages option from the AIM menu.
