Web-enabled
phones are available from many leading manufacturers. Known
issues, tips, and procedures for using the AIM service with specific
Web-enabled phones are provided below.
AT&T Wireless
Phones
|

After
opening a link, you will see an animation in the top right of
the phone screen, which indicates that information is transmitting.
Wait for this animation to stop before pressing any keys or
selecting other links.
Entering
text on your phone
To
enter text from your T68i phone (for example, entering your
screen name and writing messages), complete the following
steps:
- Navigate
to the option you want by using the blue joystick, and press
Yes. A text window opens.
- Enter
the text and press Yes. You'll see the text entered
in the appropriate field on your phone.
Starting
the AIM service
To
start the AIM service, complete the following steps:
- Start
mMode by pressing and holding the blue joystick to the left.
- Select
Message Center.
- Select
AIM. The AOL Instant Messenger screen displays. From
here you can choose to sign on, learn more about AIM, or
return to the mMode menu.
Receiving
new messages
When
you receive a new instant message, you'll be alerted with
a message, and a tone or vibration (as defined for your phone).
Select Proceed, and then on the next page select Load
to display the updated Conversations list in the main AIM
page.
If you
receive a new message alert while typing another message,
press the No key to finish composing your message.
Then, select Get New/Update Msgs from the AIM menu
to see the new instant message.

Entering
text on your phone
To
enter text from your Nokia 8390 phone (for example, entering
your screen name and writing messages), complete the following
steps:
- Navigate
to the option you want by pressing the scroll buttons, then
select the Options softkey.
- Select
Edit, and then enter the text using the phone's keypad.
- Select
the Options softkey, and then select OK. You'll
see the text entered in the appropriate field on your phone.
Starting
the AIM service
To
start the AIM service, complete the following steps:
- Start
mMode by pressing and holding the 0 key.
- Select
Message Center.
- Select
AIM. The AOL Instant Messenger screen displays. From
here you can choose to sign on, learn more about AIM, or
return to the mMode menu.
Receiving
new messages
When
you receive a new instant message, the phone will alert you
with a tone and/or vibration. To see the new message, select
Get New/Update Msgs from the AIM menu.

Receiving
new messages
When
you receive a new instant message, a pop-up message will appear
and you'll be alerted with a tone or vibration (as defined
for your phone). Select OK to display the updated Conversations
list.
If you
receive a new message alert while typing another message,
press the red "C" key to finish composing your message.
Then, select Get New/Update Msgs from the AIM menu
to see the new instant message.
Deleting
screen names
If
there is an open conversation with the screen name that you've
selected to delete, you have to end the conversation before
the Delete Buddy option will appear in the AIM menu.
To end the conversation, select the screen name in the Conversations
list and select End Conversation from the AIM menu.
Using
Quick Replies
Pressing
CANCEL during a Quick Reply cancels the message and
returns you to the main AIM page. Instead, press the CLEAR
or BACK key to return to the previous page or activity.
