AOL White Pages Tips

Whether you're trying to find an old neighbor, former roommate, or out-of-touch friend, get help with the AOL White Pages, the online White Pages at your fingertips. Here are some tips to help you find who you're looking for without a hitch, to let others find you, and even how to keep people from finding you.

Seven Quick Tips for Using AOL White Pages

  1. Whom Can I Find?
You can find a person's street address and phone number, just like a regular phone book listing. You can also get their zip code, and if they've registered, information like e-mail and web addresses. AOL White Pages uses publicly available white pages listings for the United States, along with US and international listings that people have submitted. (Remember, this is all publicly available information, but if you don't want your information to show up in the AOL White Pages, you can hide your listing.)

  2. First Name
If you know the first name, you can type it in, or you can leave the space blank. You can also type the initial or first few letters of the first name: AOL White Pages will automatically find names that start with those letters. Know this: If you type a first name, you must type the full last name -- AOL White Pages won't try to finish it for you.

  3. Last Name
You must type in at least the last initial. If you haven't typed a first name, AOL White Pages will automatically find names that begin with those letters. (For example, typing Car will find Carter, Carson, Carville, Carver, etc.) If you have typed in a first name, AOL White Pages will try to find exactly what you typed.

  4. City
You can leave the city space blank, or you can type the city name. Make sure to spell out the full city name, without any abbreviations (type Los Angeles instead of just LA, and type Mount Kisco instead of Mt. Kisco). If you type a city, you must type a state.

  5. State
You can type in the two-letter state abbrevation (OK), the full name of the state (Oklahoma), or the first few letters (Okla). If you do type the first few letters, make sure they are unique to that state: Don't just type New, South, Miss, etc., since that could mean more than one state.

  6. Changing Your Listing
If your information is wrong or missing, you can fix it yourself. You can even customize your listing, by adding information like your e-mail address, second address, fax number, personal description, and more; just click Add/Modify Your Listing from any results page, and follow the instructions on how to get a password so you can modify your listing.

  7. To Hide Your Listing
On any results page, just click Add/Modify Your Listing. Get a password, login, click "Modify main listing," and scroll down the list of options until you see Privacy Options, where you can check "Please don't show my listing or my e-mail address."
